On 21 June 2026, the stunning landscapes of the Elan Valley provided a spectacular backdrop as the King's Baton Relay made its way through the heart of Mid Wales. Mogwai Media was proud to capture this historic occasion, documenting the baton's journey through one of Wales' most iconic and beautiful locations.
The King's Baton Relay is one of the most recognisable traditions of the Commonwealth Games. Ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, the relay has travelled across all 74 Commonwealth nations and territories, carrying a message from His Majesty King Charles III. In a first for the relay, each nation and territory has been given its own baton, uniquely decorated to reflect its culture and identity before all batons are reunited at the Opening Ceremony in Glasgow.
As the relay passed through the Elan Valley, it brought together communities, athletes, volunteers and visitors in celebration of sport, unity and the shared values of the Commonwealth. The Welsh leg of the relay has highlighted the nation's strong sense of community, with baton bearers representing the people and organisations that make a positive contribution to life across Wales.
Against a backdrop of rolling hills, historic dams and sweeping reservoirs, the Elan Valley showcased the very best of Wales. The relay's visit created a memorable occasion for all involved, combining the excitement of the upcoming Commonwealth Games with the natural beauty and heritage of this remarkable landscape.
Mogwai Media was delighted to be there to capture the atmosphere, the people and the unforgettable moments that made this stage of the King's Baton Relay so special. These photographs tell the story of a day that celebrated community, connection and the journey towards Glasgow 2026.
