Pumpkins, Hay Bales & a Very Important Promotion

There are pregnancy photographs, and then there are pregnancy photographs involving hay bales, tiny pumpkins and a newly promoted big brother.

We recently spent an autumn afternoon with Katie, Shaun and Alfie, celebrating the little person currently brewing and giving Alfie the opportunity to show off his rather important new job.
And, as you can probably tell from the photographs, he took his responsibilities very seriously.

Armed with his Big Brother jumper, the scan photographs and an impressive willingness to clamber over absolutely everything, Alfie was very much the star of the show. There was scan-picture waving, pumpkin investigating, hay-bale climbing and quite a lot of doing whatever Alfie fancied while the grown-ups attempted to keep up.
Which, really, is exactly how we like family shoots to be.
We’re not particularly interested in making everyone stand perfectly still, look at the camera and smile on command for an hour. Of course we’ll get those lovely photographs of everyone together, but the pictures we really love tend to happen in between — the laughing, cuddling, wandering off, climbing things and little expressions that are completely them.
And there were plenty of those here.

Katie and Shaun even managed to sneak in a few photographs together amongst the Alfie-based chaos, complete with a growing pumpkin bump and enough autumn colour to make the whole thing feel wonderfully seasonal.
These shoots are particularly lovely because they capture a family right in the middle of changing. Right now, there are three of them and one very small person waiting in the wings. Before long, Alfie really will be a big brother and these photographs will become a little snapshot of the time just before everything changed again.

Although judging by his enthusiasm for brandishing the scan photograph around, we think he’s ready.
Congratulations Katie, Shaun and Alfie — we can’t wait to meet the newest member of the gang.
Fancy your own family shoot?
Family photographs don’t have to mean matching outfits, forced smiles and everyone being on their best behaviour.
Bring the kids. Bring the dog. Bring the chaos.
We’ll take care of the rest.
