Where Did Summer Go?

We’re not entirely sure when summer started, but apparently it’s finished. Somewhere between weddings, bicycles, christenings, websites, cameras, ridiculously hot marquees and several thousand photographs, the last few months seem to have disappeared.

It has, however, been a rather brilliant summer at Mogwai Media.

Wedding season took us to some beautiful celebrations, including Ffion and James’ July wedding, complete with horses, sunshine, a very warm marquee and a properly good party.

Then came Emily and Tom, who married at the Old Parish Church in Llandrindod Wells before heading to The Metropole to celebrate with family and friends on another glorious sunny day.

And weddings were only part of it.

We had the privilege of photographing the Tour of Britain Women on behalf of Powys County Council, capturing the riders, crowds and atmosphere as world-class cycling made its way through Mid Wales — and resulting in the slightly surreal bonus of Dave appearing on the television.

We were also there to capture the King’s Baton Relay at the Elan Valley, another brilliant event and another opportunity to photograph something a little different right here in Mid Wales.

We swapped enormous sporting events for considerably smaller subjects too, photographing Poppy Florence’s christening, along with family and pregnancy shoots — including a gorgeous session with Katie, Shaun and Alfie, with another little family member currently brewing.

Behind the cameras, the laptops have been getting just as much use. We’ve been building websites, working on branding, creating content, writing blogs, designing for print, supporting local businesses and tourism projects and generally doing all the bits of Mogwai that tend to happen quietly behind the scenes while everyone assumes we’re off taking pretty pictures.

And, somewhere amongst all of that, we were absolutely delighted to be named Best Photographer at the Mid Wales Business Awards.

That was a particularly lovely moment in a summer that didn’t leave us with an enormous amount of time to stop and think about what we’d actually been doing.

That’s probably one of our favourite things about running Mogwai. No two weeks look remotely alike. One day we can be standing beside a road photographing elite cyclists flying past us; the next we’re at a wedding, building a website, designing something for print or lying in a field trying to get the photograph we have in our heads while wondering why we didn’t wear more sensible shoes.

It’s been busy. Occasionally chaotic. Very often fuelled by coffee.

But looking back through everything we’ve photographed, designed, built and been part of over the last few months, it’s also been a pretty fantastic summer.

So, shall we make autumn even busier?

We have absolutely no intention of slowing down.

In fact, we’d quite like to make autumn even busier.

We’re kicking things off this weekend at the Top Tier Wedding Fair at the Royal Welsh Showground, where we’ll be talking all things weddings, photography and the kind of pictures that actually feel like you.

If you’ve just got engaged, you’re knee-deep in wedding planning or you’re still at the “we have absolutely no idea what we’re doing” stage, come and say hello.

We’ll be there this Sunday, 27th September, from 11am–3pm, alongside loads of other brilliant wedding suppliers.

And after that, it’s straight back into autumn shoots, websites, branding, events, content and whatever else happens to land in the Mogwai inbox.

So, if you’ve been thinking about working with us — whether it’s for your wedding, family photography, an event, a new website, branding, content or something completely different — now is a very good time to get in touch.

We’re based here in Mid Wales, we work with lovely people and businesses across Wales and beyond, and we’re always interested in hearing about something new.

Summer was busy. Let’s make autumn busier.
